Google Adwords

Are you using Google Adwords to drive traffic to your website? Adwords allow you to reach your potential customers while they are searching for what you sell.

When running a Google Adwords campaign, there are a few things to remember;

1) Choose keywords and key phrases most likely to bring you buyers. For example, if you sell hawaiian kona coffee, you want to use phrases like "hawaiian kona coffee," "kona coffee," "gourmet coffee," "Hawaiian coffee" etc.

If you choose generic words like "coffee," "gift" or "shopping" you will end up paying for a lot of clicks, but making little sales as a result. As you try different keywords, watch the results and drop any that are not converting well.

2) Use the Overture keyword suggestion tool to help you discover which phrases people are actually searching for. But, keep point number one in mind. Choose specific terms, not general ones. Yes, there are more searches for general terms, but when it comes to Adwords, general terms result in fewer buyers.

3) Please, please read about click fraud so you understand it. Click fraud is when people click on paid ads either (a) to drive up your cost or (b) to make money from clicking, with no intent to buy what you sell.

With Google Adwords, it is less likely that your competition will click on your links, because at Google, the ads with the most clicks get displayed above those with less. So, your competition would be silly to click your links to cost you money when that would put your ads above theirs in the placement.

However, there are many people that click on ads for other (pay-out) reasons.

The Google Adwords program is an excellent program. However, like anything, there are always those who will find a way to try to ruin a good thing for their own profit. Think of what spammers have done to email. If you keep your eye open for click fraud, and let Google know about it, there is a better chance that scammers will be stopped in their tracks before they cost you money.

Here are some articles that give more detail about click fraud. Do read them, so you can drive traffic to your website using Google Adwords, without leaving yourself vulnerable to click fraud.
