Google Adsense

Google Ad Sense

As you surf the Internet, you may occasionally see a column of ads (either vertical or horizontal) that say "Ads by Google." That's the Google AdSense program. Here's how it works, essentially.

Let's say you have a website that's devoted to widgets. You're a widget fanatic, for that matter. You have tons of information about widgets. In the old days, before Ad Sense, you could have contacted several businesses that sell widgeta to offer them advertising on your website. Most of them would jump at the chance of advertising to all your raving widget fans and widget readers.

Today, Google has removed the work from that plan. The merchants that sell widgets now go to Google and set up an adwords campaign. You sign up as an Ad Sense advertisier, and Google feeds the ads right to your widget site, and they share the revenue from the advertising with you.

How can you tell if you're a good candidate for the Ad Sense program?
Simple. You offer good content. If you have a mini site of 3-5 pages or a one page sales letter, you're probably not a good candidate.

Does it benefit your website?
Here's an excerpt from an article by USA Today;

    "Say I write an article about a Braun shaver," says Chris Pirillo, who runs the Lockergnome.com gadget Web site. "I publish it, and within minutes, I have targeted ads about shavers on my site. Someone who reads the content may feel compelled to pick one up. That helps me and the reader."

You can read more about Ad Sense right at the Google website, here.
