Search Engine Optimization SpamAbout 10 years ago (Oct/94) Mosaic Communications Corp. (now Netscape Communications) released the first Netscape browser. Internet Explorer didn't even exist yet.The only "spam" that existed back then was people that posted ads to multiple newsgroups, like the two Arizona lawyers that posted greencard lottery services to 6,000 Usenet groups. [excellent internet history here ] Flash forward 10 years. Today a considerable chunk of our email is spam. Every week, I get someone writing to tell me that they got an email offering them search engine optimization services. They want to know if they should "go ahead with it." I find it funny that, on the Google website, they explain that they, too, get emails that say;
I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories..." (You can read it at the Google SEO guid page, here) Here's a little tip. A really "good" search engine optimization firm would not have to resort to spam to get business. Usually, they have more than they can handle. For that matter, a lot of not so good search engine optimization firms have plenty of customers that are okay with the mediocre results they get. I can't think of a time when paying a company that sends bulk spam to get customers is a good idea. Feel welcome to reprint my articles as is. Please don't change them. All I ask in return is a credit link to my site. Thanks. |
